Vidushi Dr Sarala Bhide

Dear dear,

 Guru Lt. Dr Sarala Bhide! I love you & miss you on your Birthday today. I was fortunate that I 

had the golden opportunity to hear your silk like expressive voice. With that amazing mastery 

over thumri that you had !After learning under. Lt. Pt Narayanrao Datar, lt. Manik Verma, 

( Classical mus.) & thumri from thumri queen lt Smt Shobha Gurtu, later from Lt dr V R Athawle 

who was Saralatais guide during Her doctorate in thumri for which he guided her & she stood 1st 

in India in sangit pravin .Sarala tai had got then presidents gold medal way back when she had 

appeared in the light classical thumri comp. Of AIR She learnt under Shobhaji for several years 

Which included ghazals & classical bundishes too. Saralatai was a perfectionist excellent at 

notations & picking up tunes, style & murkis Shobha tai called her blotting paper. :-D Also she 

was a lady of few words, well read, thorough with her musical knowledge She made lectures

 interesting ...for us. Each raga ,songs or ghazals of same raga were sung to engage us more & 

more Novelty in presenting a raga & sticking to the frame work of the bundish.. She woul? Take 

the bada khayal so many times on the introductory day lecture that each person would have 

memorised the bundish. And her harkats ,murkis were crystal clear too. I went to Sndt after one 

such impressive mehfil organised by vivekini since I fell in love with her Satvik appearance & 

impressive presentations I hear that her lec-dems on thumri were par excellance too The batch of 

23 students then at sndt doted upon her One raga -for two weeks :-D daily two hours with her was 

a heavenly experience. She was HOD music at sndt Such command on hindi,marathi,english,urdu, 

& well versed with sanskrit,bhojpuri,awadhi,braj,rajasthani too :-D Old marathi was also done 

since Aai her mother had mastery in Dnyaneshwari :-D She used to teach thumris free during 

vacations to students She was the most loving kind & impartial teacher I have seen I love her Am 

proud to be her disciple Saralatai I have learnt "Jhini acharwa k par goria  the dadara which you 

had asked me to learn " chaan ahey to tayaar ker you had said "& I miss your voice, love, tea,

 guide lines, twinkle of your eyes, shine in your smile ! very much I wanted to be just like you 

:-D I learnt continuasly under you daily two hours for nearly 8 months except on a sunday It was at

the mus.dept at sndt marine lines in a group.. but the teaching standard made it seem like gurukul

system learning !
